Lemon Sage Old Fashions and Cranberry Old Fashions

There are a lot of people who favor whiskey among all the other liquors. Whiskey has a bold unique taste, and is not easily mixed like the other liquors. However, instead of being mixed, whiskey is consumed by enjoying its unique notes.

Despite the fact that whiskey has a bold taste, it also has a wide range of types. There are so many different types of whiskey for example, Tennessee, Japanese, Canadian, Irish, Scotch, Bourbon, Rye, Single malt, and Blended. While having so many different types, one can still define its flavors when being consumed to be classified as a whiskey beverage.

In this tutorial we have chosen a popular whiskey cocktail and turned it into a holiday twist. We hope you whiskey lovers enjoy it and try something new based on the classic Old Fashioned.

The Old Fashioned is meant to throw out the bold taste of the whiskey. Not too many ingredients are used, but instead only a few are used to bring out the notes of the liquor. Hire bartenders and give them these special recipes to try a spinoff of the classic cocktail to give it a bit more of a festive holiday taste.

Lemon Sage Old Fashions

Lemon Sage Old Fashions

This beverage is changed by switching out the orange with a lemon. We used bourbon whiskey which had more of some spice notes incorporated. We also switched out the sugar to a simple syrup infused with sage. The sage is not too strong here so it does not overpower the whiskey but instead adds more of a herbal touch. In fact, the lemon juice really ties in the herbal and spices together to blend well in this Old Fashioned edition.

Ingredients:

  • Bourbon whiskey 2 oz
  • Lemon juice ½ oz
  • Sage simple syrup 1 oz
  • Angostura bitters a few dashes
  • Garnishes: lemon peel and sage leaves

Directions:

First, grab your cocktail shaker. Pour in all your ingredients, add some ice, and shake well. Grab your rocks glass, add in a few ice cubes, and strain out your cocktail into your glass.Altogether, garnish with a lemon peel and sage leaves.

Like the previous drink, this one also consists of bourbon whiskey. The bourbon paired with some cranberry juice which gives this beverage a more tart flavor. Then, slightly sweeten this beverage with some standard simple syrup. Notably, the Angostura bitters bring out the spice notes out from the bourbon which really blends well with the other ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • Bourbon whiskey 2 oz
  • Cranberry juice ½ oz
  • Simple syrup ½ oz
  • Angostura bitters a few dashes
  • Garnishes: orange peel and cranberries

Directions:

First, grab your cocktail shaker. Pour in all your ingredients, add some ice, and shake well. Grab your rocks glass, add in a few ice cubes, and strain out your cocktail into your glass. After all, garnish with an orange peel and a few pieces of cranberries.
