Exotic Coquito and Classic Eggnog Cocktails

โ€œIt’s starting to look a lot like Christmasโ€, โ€ฆ and we are here for it. What’s better than joining in on the Christmas spirit by having a nice cocktail to sip on. Moreover, why not have a cocktail with seasonal flavors. By the title of this blog, you already know what seasonal flavors I mean by. Yes, homemade eggnog.ย

The best part of this tutorial is that it is super easy to make, and you probably have all the ingredients needed at home. However, if you do not have the ingredients needed, do not worry. The ingredients needed are very few and extremely affordable. You can find them at your local grocery store right away.ย

Skip the store bought eggnog and make your own homemade. It will taste better and most importantly you will know exactly what it contains. While the store bought ones contain ingredients that are unnecessary to consume. In addition, you can control the amount of ingredients and sweetness you would like to have.ย

Let’s get started with the classic eggnog

Classic Eggnog cocktail

This beverage contains the following:

  • 1 1/4 ounces milk
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Vanillaย
  • Garnish: grated nutmeg or cinnamon

Directions:

For the classic you will need a cocktail shaker. In your cocktail shaker, add your single egg yolk, brandy, milk, vanilla, and simple syrup. Shake your cocktail well with ice. You really want the egg yolk to blend in with the ingredients. Fill your glass with ice and strain your drink into your glass. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

The classic eggnog is not very sweet. However, the mixture of the ingredients gives this beverage a very unique flavor. Brandy itself contains a lot of flavors and is quite sweet among the other spirits. When combined with milk, an egg, and some vanilla it really creates something special. The simple syrup helps to enhance all the flavors that are mixed in. If you decide to add too much syrup you might end up masking all the yummy flavors that makes this beverage so great!ย

This beverage contains the following:

  • 1 ozย  of coconut milk
  • ยฝ oz sweetened condensed milk
  • ยฝ oz evaporated milk
  • 1oz ounces white rumย
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Pinch teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Garnish: ground nutmeg and cinnamon stick

Directions:ย

Grab your shaker. Add all the milks, the rum, and the vanilla extract. Shake with ice and then strain into your glass filled with ice. For garnish, add some freshly grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.

This cocktail is a perfect replacement for those who do not want to consume raw eggs. It is much sweeter than the previous cocktail, but you can balance it out by adding less of the sweetened condensed milk. Instead add more of the evaporated milk or coconut milk. This version also has more of a coconut flavor for those who enjoy a tropical touch. This beverage is inspired by the original โ€œCoquitoโ€, the Puerto Rican eggnog.ย
